BLUE PLANET CLIMATE PROTECTION FOUNDATION
The Blue Planet Climate Protection Foundation was set up by President János Áder, using the money left to the Hungarian president by electrical engineer Miklós Balázs, who died in Manchester in 2013. According to Balázs’s will, the funds should be used to the benefit of Hungarians.
OUR FOOTPRINT MATTERS!
The Blue Planet Climate Protection Foundation aims to find solutions.
ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER
The foundation was established by a will to take action and a recognition that there have been discourses on the dangers of climate change for decades, but very little was actually done. For the past twenty-five years the prognosis has been increasingly alarming, but we still haven’t found a solution to the dilemma that while during the past century the population of the Earth more than tripled, our energy consumption increased tenfold.
NOW IS THE
In Paris, a political agreement was finally reached in 2015 to keep the temperature rise below two degrees Celsius. It has been four years since. If we look at the latest emission data, we have to realize that the Paris climate agreement is in trouble. The intention was honourable, but it is essential to take action too.
IT IS OUR
We can achieve our shared goals and tasks if we become partners, supporters, organizers and helpers in any initiative, program and organization that focuses primarily on the sustainability priorities of Hungary and the Carpathian Basin.
WE BELIEVE IN OUR PLANET AND
THE POWER OF OUR COMMUNITIES
We are witnesses and victims of dramatic changes in all parts of the world: droughts and forest fires, storms and floods, polluted water and epidemics, eroding soil and acidifying oceans, rapidly melting ice sheets and rising sea levels. These are the consequences of human activity. If we do not change, by the end of the century – in our grandchildren’s time – there will be no way back: most of our Earth will be uninhabitable. More
In the 21st century, the most important message is that all mankind is responsible for all mankind. We have to think universally; there are no isolated, local systems and rules. And yet, we live our lives locally and our actions are most effective locally. The dangers – and the possibilities – have multiplied. Similarly, our responsibilities multiplied both globally and locally. That’s why the Blue Planet Climate Protection Foundation was created.
As the Latin proverb goes: “Sine praeteritis futura nulla”, which means there is no future without a past. The world we inherit and create will influence our future as well as our present. This generation carries great responsibility for shaping the world. The Earth we leave behind is inherited by our progeny; we must make sure it serves them well.
I believe that the call of the Earth Charter has never been so timely: “As never before in history, common destiny beckons us to seek a new beginning… Let ours be a time remembered for the awakening of a new reverence for life, the firm resolve to achieve sustainability, the quickening of the struggle for justice and peace, and the joyful celebration of life”.* More

I have noticed that we all have a tendency to place our hopes in the future. At the Blue Planet Climate Protection Foundation I have learnt that our future places its hopes in us. Therefore, our Foundation wishes to support initiatives that draw attention to the greatness of our natural assets, and also to their destruction. We are here to assist programs and organizations which are looking for answers and responding to environmental, climate and sustainability challenges. More
